Treat yourself to a poetry collection that will refresh your mind and
spirit with D.A. Irsik’s Sunshine In The Weeds. “Forever a Memory”
is a reflective poem about friendship and cherishing a bond with
someone that has lasted a lifetime through memories. “A Life Lived
Well” is an inspirational poem with a few valuable lessons on life.
The narrator likens themself to a cheerleader, content to support,
applaud, and celebrate from afar as their loved ones walk the path
of greatness. “The Woman That I Am” delves into the many roles a
woman plays in life. A mother marvels at the woman her beloved
daughter becomes in “Time Let Her Grow.” “The Healing Heart”
reminds us that no matter how difficult circumstances may seem,
time finds a way to mend all wounds.
Divided into six parts, Sunshine In The Weeds ushers in a ray of
light to remind readers of the many things to be grateful for in this
life. D.A. Irsik’s poetry is invigorating, observing aspects of life and
the world around us that impact a person in myriad ways. These
poems deal with themes of childhood, family, love, motherhood,
nature, faith, writing, and more. Irsik uses simple words, but her
poetry has a lot of depth as the universal themes evoke powerful
emotions and feelings in the reader. There’s also a nostalgic feel to
these poems, especially the ones in the first part, which I think
many readers will appreciate and be able to relate to. I found this
collection to be very heartfelt, compassionate, and inspirational. For
poetry aficionados, this one is a must-read

SUNSHINE IN THE WEEDS

A lyrical odyssey into the human heart, where love, faith, and nature intertwine. Deb Irsik’s debut poetry evokes emotions and takes you on a journey from shadows to sunshine. Explore the bonds of family, the healing power of nature, and discover the divine in the smallest moments of life.

This is a short description of my poetry collection, Sunshine in the Weeds. I am honored that those who have read my manuscript have such beautiful words to describe it.

Since we have had a good amount of snow and winter weather will share a winter poem that appears in the collection.

Winter Clouds

Barren boney-fingered trees

Reach to the heavens

Searching for

Life in winter clouds

Brooding dark filtering light

Holding back the warmth of the sun,

Teasing

With glorious sunrises

Sunsets that dazzle

Waiting for the melting

Season

Heavy with snow or icy rain

Turning the boney fingers

Into a crystal wonderland

Sometimes

Dumping random mounds

Of white, Cossack hats

Accents to counter

Starkness

Winter clouds the canopy

In nature’s rhythm

A time to gather strength

Storing nourishment preparing

Sun

Breaks through the gray quilt

And warms the earth

A peek at the fluff of white

Soon

Light will come with

The thunderheads of

Spring

And

Summer skies

The dilemma

My book series is complete, and I am working on a book of poetry. I always thought I would be a poet, but now that I got side-tracked with fiction, I find I like it. I want to publish some of my poems and then possibly some historical fiction.

The dilemma is: Should I put together several chapbooks or one or two larger themed poetry collections? I have several themes. Faith based poems, awareness poems, seasonal and weather poems, life, lessons, beauty. Where to begin?

I find I will read chapbook poems in one sitting and rarely go back to them. I am more likely to return to the more book type collections. One author with several themes in one book. Not a large volume, but more than a chapbook.

I would love to hear from readers. What is your favorite type of poetry and preferred book style? I am considering doing a couple of volumes with several sections.

Here is one for Autumn. Tell me what you think.

Autumn

The colors are of
Earth not sky
No soft pinks
 But
Vibrant earthy hues
Orange, brown red
Yellow spun
In golden highlights

These colors are
What remains
Rushing through
Veins of grasse
Of trees

Celebrating
Victory over
Drought, Flood
Thriving
Through Heat,
Winds disease
Pestilence

Surviving they
Wave their
Colors
Jubilant
Proud as
They prepare
For retreat
To mother earth

The colors are of
Earth not sky
A final splash
On the canvas
OF
Life
Until it begins
  Again
